Slightly Dishevelled are a punk band based in Dublin, but living scattered across the country. Their music is a combination of influences ranging from 70s punk music and aesthetics, surrealist art and absurdist film paired with individual inspirations. The most essential component to Slightly Dishevelled is the necessity for expression shared between all involved.
For the past couple of years, Slightly Dishevelled have carved a name for themselves as a must- see live band. The rooms they have played are consistently left drenched in sweat and euphoria. Since their conception in college, they have been playing gigs across the country.
They have been seen opening for Cork band GOD ALONE, in Whelans upstairs, opening for international band Booze and Glory in The Grand Social as well as opening for British punk trio BILK in the Cellar with Singular Artists. They also made an appearance at The Social UNREST festival, an online music festival hosted by The Grand Social. Separate to these support slots and festivals, Slightly Dishevelled have also headlined Whelans upstairs and Fred Zeppelin’s in Cork, both to packed out rooms. The next big headline show is currently in the works.
The music video for Chaos, directed by Iarla McKeon, was released in the 28th of February, and was premiered on Hot Press. Through their mutual obsession of surrealist art and absurd film, they took influence from that in the music video for “Chaos”. The video evokes the feeling of an old school horror movie, but simultaneously reflects abstractions in the narrative of the song.

Fairly Regal is about seeking personal meaning, but deciding to endure and survive regardless of finding that meaning or not. Non-conforming ideas towards upright societal standards is prevalent throughout, as regality is challenged through lyrical abstractions. The sharp nature of this track mirrors the purposefully distorted view of reality laid out in the narrative. This song captures the essence of embracing the absurd when faced with inconceivable, yet unavoidable circumstances. The syncopated drum rhythms and immediate guitars lay out an abrupt sonic landscape in which the vocals slither through, still veiled in the cryptic meaning.
